At least once a year, I make my way across the ocean to see my family and friends in Hawaii. Since it’s only once a year, there are always so many things that are on my must-do list such as eating my favorite foods, going to the beach and watching a movie at the theater at least once during my trip. Last year, my friend and I decided to go and see Frozen. He said that the movie was getting rave reviews and that he was sure that I would enjoy it. I trusted his judgement and without any expectations, I went to see the Disney movie called Frozen.

Not Your Typical Boy Saves Girl Movie

Frozen is one of those movies that you go to see expecting the typical Disney story line – good guy saves a certain princess with random jokes thrown in for good measure – but it ends up being much more than that. If I may be so blunt, the last Disney movie that I really enjoyed as an adult ( other than those that are Pixar ), was Pocahontas. Until now!

Elsa and Anna are sisters and they are inseparable until one day, her parents advise Elsa, who has a secret, hide herself from the world , including from her sister. As a result, she turns into a recluse and sheds any shadow of an identity. As the movie progresses, she is finally forced to run away to escape those who judge her. But her sister is determined to find her and bring her back. There is lots of adventure and action sequences littered throughout the movie, however at the core, lies a story about love, self-discovery and acceptance.

“Let It Go” Gave me Chills

From the icy landscapes to the beautiful costumes, the animation is absolutely stunning. The vocal performances from Broadway stars such as Idina Menzel, Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff add their own styles to the enjoyable musical numbers. One of my favorite songs ( and apparently the entire world ) of the movie is the powerful “Let It Go” sung by Idina Menzel. I’ve always been a fan of Idina since I saw her live in “Rent” many years ago and she has never sounded better than this. In fact, her performance of “Let It Go” is so incredibly powerful and emotional that I might have even shed a tear during the song. By the end of her last note, I had goosebumps all over. Since then, I have been listening to the song over and over on repeat ( and I’m not kidding! ).

Being a musical fan, my only disappointment would be that there weren’t enough musical numbers but alas, it’s an animated movie and is geared towards people of all ages, especially children. Frozen is funny, moving and such a pleasure to watch from beginning to end. In fact, Frozen has become my absolute favorite Disney movie, replacing Beauty and the Beast from that coveted space in my heart.

The Final Verdict

I won’t be giving away anything else about the movie because I don’t want to spoil it for you, but if you haven’t seen the movie in theaters don’t worry. You can always order the DVD online and experience the magic and wonder of Frozen in the comfort of your own home.

A very well written movie review. You were able to take a personal perspective that was enjoyable to read with many trivial and entertaining information that didn't spoil the plot of the movie. Well done!

My brother didn't like Frozen, actually, but what does he know about great movies? He thinks a good movie is one where there's more blood here and about than actual plot -.-

Thank you for the review. I especially agree with the disappointing fact that there were lesser musical numbers than I had expected. I would actually have preferred to hear a song at the end of the movie but I guess not everyone gets what they want >.<

Don't get me wrong, I love Frozen :) Right to the bone >.

Fabulous review! My sister and I saw this movie with our nephew. He didn't quite get it, but it made me love my sister a little bit more. I loved that it was the true love between sisters that saved the day, and not the kiss of a man. Disney really went back to their roots. It reminded me of when I was little obsessed with Cinderella and The Little Mermaid. Obviously those were about a typical man and woman getting together, but the memorable characters and musical scores.... Disney is back!

My sister and I saw this movie with two of my grandchildren, daughter and s-i-l. So, it was a family outing at Thanksgiving. I really liked the costuming and the animation...I guess I just have always like Disney as well as Pixar. The kids liked the movie just fine, as did the adults. I can not say that this is my absolute favorite Disney movie, but it was not a wasted afternoon.

My entire family loves Frozen, and so do all my daughter's friends. It's a really engaging story with even lots of great life lessons that aren't too heavy-handed. Music is spectacular, and so are the visuals and the humor. One of my very favorite Disney movies ever. Thanks for doing a quality review on this enjoyable film.

I LOVED this movie. I watched it with my young daughter and one of my three sisters, so it really resonated with me. Finally, Disney realizes that women don't need a man to be their hero. Yay, Disney!
