During the summer of 1995, in the midst of an Midwestern heat wave, the animals at Mesker Park Zoo in Evansville, Indiana, howled and barked and sang under the evening stars. In the amphitheater next to the zoo’s animal exhibits, hundreds of Evansvillians paced and chattered anxiously in anticipation of their evening treat.

While the elephants played their trumpets in the background, the children played in the grass in front of the huge movie screen. As the monkeys swung from one last tree, moms and dads carried popcorn and beers from the concession stand to the bleacher seats.

Everyone waited anxiously for the movie to begin. Tonight was special. A once in a lifetime event. Tonight, this theater in the middle of a metropolitan zoo, showed Jurassic Park on the big screen.

It felt surreal to be in the middle of a real life zoo, hearing real zoo animals in the background, while on the silver screen, images of prehistoric animals gone wild captured my vision. My ears heard the scream of a peacock somewhere behind me but in front of me an enraged dinosaur screamed as he crashed through building windows.

From the zoo, the sound of a buffalo snorting filled the air as a tyrannosaurus rex pawed the ground in front of me and set off on a rapturous spree. The sights and the sounds had me captivated and fascinated, mesmerized and terrorized.

If you’re looking for a good time strolling around a zoo gone wild, play Jurassic Park on your big screen TV. Or, plan a picnic at the zoo and watch Jurassic Park on your mobile device after you’ve enjoyed a nice lunch.

It’s a treat you will always remember.

Here are a couple more Jurassic Park adventures that you may enjoy.

I have enjoyed watching these movies many times but have never got to see them in such a cool location as you were able to do! Great lens!

I have seen all the parts of the Jurassic Park movies but the first part is my personal best. You can think of a situation that it is raining outside and nobody is in the house plus you are watching the film, under this condition I watched the movie. I was a true thrilling experience with a usual location but unusual circumstances.

Although I have seen this movie previously your review has motivated me to watch it again - and maybe the rest of the series. Good work.

Evansville is my hometown, and I have great memories of Mesker Park. I've never watched any of the Jurassic Park movies in an unusual location, but if I could, I'd do it just where you did.

This is such a great idea, especially the part about watching the movie in the zoo.

That would have been super cool! Thanks for sharing - and for the suggestion to re-create the scene ourselves, in our own way. Congrats on your purple review lens of the day!

Hi Susan! I just hope I don't get un-fan mail from zookeepers around the country. Thank you for visiting!

What a great way to watch this movie! I loved it when it came out a million years ago... (kidding about the million years..i tend to be a bit dramatic)... but seeing it at the zoo would be so great!

What a wild adventure you just took me on as you told your Jurassic Park at the Mesker Park Zoo tale! I really felt like I was right their with you enjoying or squirming all the way through the performance on both sets. I enjoyed your review immensely! I also enjoyed watching the movie way back when.

What a terrific movie review. I can't think of a better place to watch 'Jurassic Park' then outside in the midst of a zoo. The sound effects from both the movie and the real animals must have been a most unique experience.

Hi Wednesday_Elf! This was one of those "bucket list" experiences.
